Proximitive Disclosure
Sound Installation (2007) : Audio tracks, computer, speakers, wood

We are moving toward a stream of consciousness where ‘place’ constructs within space and time. Every history of ‘place’, begins with our own, this is when ‘yours’ is different from ‘mine’ – there lies a sense of place. In that moment of contemplation, we cannot begin to realise the true dimensions of ‘place’ without the awareness of being discrete and its possession of excludability.

Proximitive Disclosure is a means to question the boundary and denotation of ‘place’. Within the installation, a real-time speech algorithm is constructed from sentences and phases of the Swedish Pimsleur learning audio-book. Regarding personal space as a ‘place’, the algorithmic conversation reflects upon the situation when an careless approach by a stranger could be considered as an intrusion of the ‘place’.
